What you'll do

Idle, Forge, Crawl, Ascend

Aetherbound is an incremental RPG that lives in a browser tab. Set it up, let it run, come back stronger.

Gather Aether

Passive Aether trickles in from the Wilds. Click to jumpstart it early, then build upgrades until clicking is optional—and eventually embarrassing.

Forge Your Gear

The Smithy converts raw materials into weapons, armor, and trinkets. Every piece has stats that scale with your materials, skill, and increasingly reckless experimentation.

Crawl the Abyss

The dungeon runs automatically once you're in. Roguelite floors, random relics, escalating enemies, and loot that probably isn't worth the near-death experience.

Ascend & Repeat

Reset your run for permanent multipliers. The Ascension chart lets you buy lasting upgrades with Ascension Points—so every death makes you measurably less bad.

Choose a Class

Warrior, Ranger, Mage, or Rogue—each shapes how your stats scale and which gear hits hardest. Class choice lasts the run, so choose with mild deliberateness.

Rank & Compare

A global leaderboard tracks Renown, ascension depth, and personal bests. Compete with strangers, or just feel bad about your efficiency. Both are valid.

The loop

One Run at a Glance

Each session follows the same core rhythm. The numbers change. The humbling stays constant.

01
Gather

Aether flows. Flora and Scrap pile up. You pretend you're in control.

02
Forge

Smelt materials into gear. Equip the best. Sell the rest. Repeat until the Smithy is a well-oiled machine.

03
Descend

Enter the Abyss. Fight floors automatically. Pick up relics. Eventually die to something embarrassingly avoidable.

04
Ascend

Convert this run's progress into permanent gains on the Ascension chart. Start over, objectively stronger.

Questions

FAQ

Yes. The full game is free. Supporter packs are optional cosmetics—badges and banners for your profile. They change how you look, not how you play.
Nope. You can jump in as a guest immediately. Create a Google account to sync your save across devices and access the leaderboard.
Very. Aether generates while the tab is open. Dungeon runs play automatically. You make strategic decisions—gear choices, class, upgrades, ascension timing—then let the engine run. Check back whenever.
Each dungeon run is randomized: floor layouts, enemies, relic drops. When you Ascend (or die too many times), the run resets—but your meta progress on the Ascension chart survives. You get permanently stronger between runs.
Not yet—but Aetherbound is a PWA. You can "Add to Home Screen" on iOS or Android and it runs like an app, with offline support and no app store required.

No install. No account required. Just a tab and a little recklessness.
